Fossil fuels companies are trashing the planet. Not only unlocking more carbon to cause climate change but wrecking rainforests, threatening the Arctic and destroying local people’s livelihoods. And it’s often our pensions and public money paying for it.
The idea of divesting from fossil fuels is gaining ground all the time and we’ve seen universities and churches in Scotland choose to change their investments.
Public pensions funds in Scotland control many billions of investment and now we’re working to get a huge £1.7bn of that money out of fossil fuels and into something sensible – like community renewables, social housing and local transport schemes.
