Community renewables help local people control their own secure and sustainable sources of energy and bring extra cash into their local area. Scotland has met its 2020 target for ‘community and locally-owned energy’ five years early and we’re pressing politicians to guarantee support for local green energy into the future, by doubling the 2020 target and setting a new target for 2030.
We’ve set up the Scottish Community Energy Coalition to help all the key players work together and we’re working with 12 other countries in Europe to spread community energy ideas and learn from successful projects elsewhere. We’re also fighting the cuts the UK Government is trying to make to the schemes which supports community energy projects.
